Southbound on the way to La Crescent after getting off of I-90. The highway here was upgraded to four lanes in 1964 to provide a better connection between La Crescent and the Interstate. The original concrete pavement from 1964 is still in use.

Southbound at the Houston County line, just north of La Crescent. Note the orange signs warning of construction ahead. The following photos were taken while the highways in La Crescent were in the throes of a major reconstruction.

A first view of buildings at La Crescent.

Entering La Crescent. Note the old culvert and flume on the far right.

Southbound at the Main Street "exit" in La Crescent (note the sign on the right). The ramps connecting U.S. 61/U.S. 14 with Main Street were constructed back in 1941 when the highway through town was originally upgraded to four lanes. Also note the northbound lane, which has had its pavement removed. The southbound lane is temporarily doing double duty. The new Chestnut Street overpass is visible in the center of the photo.

Approaching the junction with State Highway 16 (former U.S. Highway 16).

Another view of the construction zone, looking south from Main Street down Chestnut Street, currently closed for reconstruction.

A view of the new overpass and grade, still under construction (note the future center island). The old southbound lane is visible in the foreground. It is slated for demolition when the new grade is paved.

Looking southeast towards the new junction of U.S. 61/U.S. 14 with State Highway 16.
