A service drive located on the east side of U.S. 61 just north of the Disabled American Veterans Rest Area was once part of the original paved highway between Lake City and Red Wing.
Construction
The road here was graded in 1924 and paved with concrete, 18 feet wide in 1925.
Bypass History
This short stretch was bypassed in 1953 as part of the reconstruction and modernization of the highway between Lake City and Red Wing.
Current Status
Although the old pavement appears to have been paved over, the old road is otherwise still intact. It now provides access to cabins and a marina.
