Southbound, just north of the brand-new Bailey Road/Maxwell Avenue interchange, constructed as part of the Wakota Bridge replacement project. U.S. 61 / U.S. 10 was also rebuilt and upgraded to freeway standards south of Carver Avenue (note the brand new concrete pavement). Also note the detour sign for access to I-494 (the new interchange was far from complete in 2006). The Ramsey/Washington County line is just ahead.

Ramps and retaining walls at the new I-494 interchange in Newport.

Southbound at Newport, with the new north pedestrian bridge visible ahead. The highway here has been rendered almost unrecognizable from its former appearance, marked with stop-lights and traffic back-ups.

Approaching the new ultra-modern Glen Road interchange. The long ramp leading from Glen Road to the west side of the railroad tracks, presumably designed for heavy truck traffic, is visible on the far right.

Looking east on 21st Street in Newport towards U.S. 61/U.S. 10.

Looking east across the railroad tracks from the intersection of 21st Street and 7th Avenue in Newport. The gated road ahead was once the main access point to U.S. 61/U.S. 10 from the west side of town.

Another closed access point on the west side of the railroad tracks, this one at 12th Street. The south pedestrian bridge is visible on the far right.
